About drinking away the pain
A Deceitful Friend

Back leans the bottle
Pressed hard against her lips.
She swallows and grimaces
Far away, her pain, it drips.

Burning and warm
It envelops the sting
Of years and moments imprinted
And momentarily blocks out, the harshness life brings.

A bottle of hope
Filled with liquid dreams
A soothing thought
But its not what it seems.

Everything has its downside
And a bottle is not exempt,
Promises of pleasure
And freedom is how it tempts.

But contained inside
In very toxic amounts
Is the morning after affect,
And the confusion that amounts.

Now empty and unfriendly
The bottle drained to the drop
Twisting and sickening
Her strength plummets from the top.

Searing and painful
She sits in her own waste
To find an empty bottle in hand
And her life just as out of place.
