Does poetry always have to have rhyme and rhythm ?
I JUST DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

I do not understand why some poems have no rhyme,
I was taught that rhyme and meter must be present all the time.
Have been writing for a while now, it really has been years,
But lately things that I have read have brought me close to tears.

BECAUSE

I do not understand if a poem has no verse.
And if it has no rhythm, that makes it even worse.
When a lot of words are written to describe just what one knows,
I thought that in the scheme of things, that style, it was called "prose".

AND

I do not understand why I can't write this way
I've wracked my brains, put pen to pad, tried it every day.
I'm never short of words it's true, been told by foe and friend,
So if I wrote without a rhyme, I'd know not when to end.

FOR EXAMPLE

I'd go on and on for hours talking of the things I like
And my audience would jeer at me and take away the mike.
I'll go away and see if I can write some prose right now,
And if you do not understand, please review it anyhow.
