A poem about small things in life that make you think of the past.
While walking to the corner store
And cutting down an alley
I came across a mischievous cat
Now, had it been black, I may have worried
About it crossing my path
But it was the grey
Of your squinting eyes
“Very shifty,” I thought
About the cat, I mean
It was a very shifty cat indeed
How odd that it would make me think of you

How odd that your eyes follow me still
And as I walked, the cat did too
Mirroring my every step and movement
The way that you would do
I couldn’t help but think that maybe it was you
In disguise. But how silly is that!
The last time I saw you, I’m sure that you were
At least bigger than this cat
Then again, it has been quite awhile
