I just don't want to be second best.
Dear mother can't you see that I cannot be perfect?
Dear mother please let me be I'm doing all I can.
I wish that I could be the child that you had always hoped for.
I'm sorry for not being what you wanted, but this is who I am.

Dear mother could you ever love me the way that you love my brother?
If I were to change and do better, would you tell me you were proud?
Dear mother do I have chance? Will I ever be good enough?
And if I was, would you keep it to yourself or say it out loud?

Dear mother I know you'll never be the mother that I wanted.
But I'd rather love you as you are than to continue placing blame.
I hope that one day I can be your loving daughter,
but for now I'll settle for being the girl who brings my family shame.
