A true poem of a visit I had with him just months before he died.
My Daddy's Brother

He is my Daddy’s brother
A Cowboy unlike any other
He has seen bad times and he seen good ones
The smile on his face was as bright as the sun
The days have grown long and weary
As he sits and reminisces his eyes get a little teary
You know he said, It just ain’t right for a man to cry
But it’s so hard just to sit and watch the days go by
I left him that day with a prayer
So he would know that Jesus would always be there
As I went on my way I remembered the days long ago
He’d say put her in the chute girl, Ok now let her go
We worked those cows from daylight to dark
Gets some rest now girl tomorrow we gotta get an early start
The pay was good and the work was hard
I’d go home at night hungry and tard
He is my Daddy’s brother
To me there is no other
A Cowboy he is, a Cowboy he’ll stay
When God takes him home to that heavenly place

Now he is gone and what will I do
The gates won’t open and neither will the chute
But the Pearly Gates they were opened wide
And Jesus was waiting when he finally died
He was more than an Uncle he was my friend
Today Jesus came and took his hand
