                                  Compassion in her eyes

A stream of bullets screamed over Mesa's head as she hit the ground.
When the deadly stream moved towards a new target she got up and quickly ran, hunched down with weapon in hand, towards cover.
She found cover in the remains of an armored vehicle and with a quick glance around the corner of the scrap heap she unleashed a volley of light. Afterwards, she looked around for better cover, while avoiding the urge to count the number of dead or to look for the wounded. She saw one in the form of a nearby trench, whether it was dug by the humans or by them was unclear but it mattered less and less as more munition shot towards her direction.
With two long hops followed by a roll she fell in to the trench with a small splash that covered her visor with mud, obscuring her vision. She quickly stood up, wiped the mud of her visor and pointed her riffle in to the trench, hoping that their where no humans in their with her, their was.
Six bodies lied in front of her, with coolants, oils, sweat and other liquids dripping out of the holes in their armor, pooling at the bottom of the trench. She couldn't help but wonder to herself how-many where dead because of her,  and how many of her sisters where dead because of them.
Suddenly pulled from her thoughts, she let out a startled growl muffled by her helmet as she quickly turned and pointed her riffle to the ground behind her. A wounded human laid before her, his bloody hand grasped her leg in what she originally though was a last act of aggression. With his helmet removed (shot of, it would seem), she could see his face.
She always though humans as being physically bizarre life forms, mainly due to the fact that they only had hair on top of their head and some times on sporadic parts of their face, but in this occasion she was not detested by the sight before her eyes.
Fear, desperation, sadness, she was surprised that she could see these emotions in his expression, she though only Verans could do that.
Putting her riffle aside, she started to remove her helmet as she crouched down towards the human, revealing her lion-like features as she reached for the fallen soldiers bloody hand. The soldier, bloodied and trembling, let go of her leg and received her hand with a week grip. Reaching over with her other hand and gently wiping some of the coagulated blood of his face, she could see that he hadn't much time left.
Wheat colored fur, a small scar on her left brow, amber eyes, a soft smile, these where the last things that Murphy would see. And as these images started to fade, he softly said his last words. Mesa didn't understand his murmurs, but she knew what they meant.
A nearby explosion reminded her of the current situation. She put the soldiers cold hand on his chest and stood up, as she put her helmet back on, a tear welled up in her eye. She reached for her riffle and shot blindly over the trench, with no intention of hitting anything.
