FROM AUSTRALIA TO OZ Australia (Down Under) with its capital city - Canberra, Boasts many species of birds and animals (both human and dumb). Catagorically, the oldest continent on Earth with mountains once volcanic. Dreamtime stories of old are related by the original owners of this land. Emus and Kangaroos would have to be the most recognisable Fauna of this country. They are depicted on the Australian motif. Goannas and Frilled- necked lizards roam the interior creating Havoc for other desert birds and animals, whose eggs they poach. In tropical waters Sharks abound and the deadly jellyfish -Irakundji. Jet black birds called Drongos are of an Indian species of bird the Bhimraj Koalas would be the most popular "teddy bear" for tourists I think, Laughing Jackass or Kookaburra is famous for its raucous call. Marsupial animals are unique as their young are carried in a pouch by their mum. Naturally these include Kangaroos. Wallabies and Wombats are also common, Often found near cities as well as in bushland. They are so Popular with visitors who highlight a holiday with a snap. Quite a lot of Camels grace the outback, probably brought in from Iraq Roaming the deserts of the interior in search of water. Sadly one unique Australian animal no longer exists The Tasmanian Tiger - a Thylacine - is now extinct Under the stars of the Southern Cross, stands the monolith Ayers Rock - Uluru Visible for miles around in country accessible preferably in an SUV. Waterholes (billabongs) in the outback are few, and in a wallow Xerophytes thrive - desert plants and spinifex, Yellow and red cacti flowers bloom, despite the land being so dry. Zoologically and botanically marvellous is my home - this land called OZ. |
