                                    THE BEGGAR ON THE STREET

Beggar on the street, no shoes upon his feet
With a tear in his eye and no food to eat
Homeless man, with a cup in his hand
People turn away, they do not understand

He used to have a wife and kids, it wasn't always like this
He can't even remember the face that he used to kiss
He hasn't seen his children, most would be all grown up now
He'd love to see them just once more if it could happen somehow

He can't even remember what it was that brought him down
His thoughts get lost among the citys sound
He has no one to love and he has lost all reason to hate
He trys to think of where he'll sleep but finds it hard to concentrate

The sound of a coin landing in his cup brings him back to the real world
He nods his thanks to the giver, a frail little black girl
She gave him enough for a meal, the only money he'd recieved all day
And then he remembered that she was the same one who helped yesterday

Everyday that little girl would drop a coin in the beggars cup
He was so thankful he'd chosen this street to beg, he couldn't believe his luck
But he would never know that the one keeping him alive the little black girl so kind
Recognised him from the photo she held close, she was the daughter he had left behind.
