All I wanted was to leave it behind...
It's funny how I didn't realize
I had the clip in my hand
until I paused at the top
of the staircase
to cover my eyes,
and how suddenly
all I wanted
was to leave it behind,
neatly lined up on your
windowsill
between Anna's earring
and the Peebles tag,
because then I'd have an excuse
to come back.
