A fictional love tragedy written in verses.
Lover’s Leap… a Final Vow

In a very distant past I thought I had been
A memory I am sure I knew I had never seen.
Somewhere, sometime a place in another time
Delving on past a déjà vu for others is a crime.

Great stories of lovers that most end up torn
Good men who were deprived and forlorn
Beaux to the well to do’s who lovingly fall
Became vex enemies and un-justices befall.

One night with stars and the moon was full
Scared from the crucifying eyes she was careful
Her faint shadow running fast to the lover’s loft
Trail of rope with her swift gliding hands so soft.

As her feet landed on the wet, muddy earth
She felt the freedom and an unexplained dearth
Hiding from bushes she felt a strong suspicion
She saw her lover in the heat of commotion.

Chained hands and feet he walked with escorts
Burglary a crime given by her father’s cohorts
He was sentenced long years of twenty-five
For nothing he did but to let his love survive.

Like a bruised hummingbird she climbed back
Dwelling of comforts had his picture on the rack
A lavish space turned into a dark catacomb
Dream for a son lost in her forbidden womb.

Days, weeks, months, years went by and by
She waited and waited till all her tears ran dry.
She kept her promised never to love anybody
Confused for her jailed lover and her mortality.

His name in the news escaped and was shot dead
Prayed silently in tears while shaking her head
Her hopes and dreams were ashes on the rocks
Remembered the place they vowed in a few blocks.

Before the sunrise she went to the prohibited cliff
Wore wedding white satin dress and a prayer so brief
Engraved gold leaf in her hand, “Till death do us part.”
With broken wings she flew with a broken heart.

A lover’s leap was her final vow of secrecy
Justified cause for grieving soul to her was easy
A year later in front of her tomb full of flowers
Stood her beloved set free for just only ten years.
