Survivor, after a great battle
HIGHLANDER

All is silent now
The smell of death stings my nostrils
Like so much rotting meat

As I look down the field of battle
Thousands of lifeless corpses mark the land
Some known by me
All known by some
Some will be claimed by family
Some by Mother Earth
Still others a nocturnal feast for the scavengers of the night

The grass is no longer green
Soiled with the lives of thousands of men
My feet are red from this river of blood

An accounting of the carnage reveals a savage belief
They think you should die because of a name
Every conceivable act of butchery was commited this day
Some were literally chopped to pieces
Throats slit
Eyes gouged
Decapitated
Disemboweled

My feet are red from this river of blood
