The narrative poem we had to write in my honors English class.
I remember a girl
That I once met
She was happier
Than anyone could get.

She had a million friends
Always hanging around her
The trumpets would sound
Every time she came over.

The boys would always
Stand in a line
Begging and pouting,
"Princess Chloe be mine!"

But she had a flaw
That no one could see
She had a crush on a boy
Oh, how could it be?

Brad wasn't a star
On the football team
Or have many talents,
or so it might seem.

He wasn't real smart
Or cool at all
But Chloe saw something
As he walked down the hall.

He picked up the books
Of some girl who fell down
And Chloe could see
He was the nicest in town.

If only she could
Talk to him just once
She could tell him maybe
That he's what she wants.

Everything was going
According to plan
Until it was clear
Her new math partner was Dan.

Though he might be
A step above cute
His chances with Chloe
Were something close to minute.

He had watched her from afar
All the years that had passed
He would not let this chance
Slip away like an ass.

He was formulating
His master attack
Until an idea
Arrived with a whack!

He could take her away
To a secret place
A man is only
As much as he takes.

His pen spoke to him
And wrote down the details,
She would be helpless
And he would prevail!

While he was planning
He didn't stop to realize
That Chloe was smart
She would break through his lies.

While all this was happening
Just a few blocks away
Chloe was pacing
Thinking of what to say.

She had gotten Brad's number
From a friend of a friend
Though she had lied to obtain it
She could no longer pretend.

It was then she received
An unexpected call
Becky needed her
To inspect a new shawl.

Chloe gathered her things
And stormed out the door
She would call Brad later
And to that she swore.

Not far behind her
Dan lurked in the shadows
He gave it all that he got
Nothing else mattered.

Next thing I know
I wake up in my bed
Realizing by now
My dog hasn't been fed.

So now I am sitting
In this English class
The teacher calls on me
But I have to pass.

Our next assignment
Some kind of story poem
I release this idea
So that it can roam.

Who knows? My dreams
Could be the next hit,
But for right now
My memory won't let me quit.
