A short story for younger children about a dog in a tree.
Puppy was scared. Puppy didn’t know how he had gotten there. Puppy moved closer to the tree trunk and looked down. It seemed so far up, and he was only the third branch up from the bottom. Puppy whimpered, wishing he was in his nice, cozy basket with his warm and fluffy blanket.

The front door opened and Joe and Sarah came out to play. Puppy felt some hope fill him up and his tail started to wag. He let out a bark. Joe and Sarah started looking for Puppy. Sarah spotted him in the tree and Joe went in to get Mom. Mom came out and after seeing Puppy, went back in the house and called the fire department.

The firemen came in their big red truck and put a ladder against the tree. The fireman that got Puppy was very gentle when he lifted puppy off the branch. He slowly came back down the ladder and placed Puppy on the ground where Joe and Sarah started petting him. Puppy never again chased a squirrel.
