This is my first attempt with the Ghazal poetry form
I'D CALL YOU MY LORD
March 2007

I'd call you lord but you don't act like one
your heart, a beast, is less, 'tis fact, like one

Your temper ignites like a match on flame
Your tongue is a fiend and attacks like one

I hold my breath and pray all for the best
I'm a rotten tooth you extract like one

Your eyes are pitchforks that uproot my heart
You mime and witlessly react like one

I long to love you and to trust in you
Your love is a snake and attracts like one

Caught as I am between you and the door
An elastic band, stretched and racked like one

I try to please, to make you glad I'm yours
Your fists I refuse to be smacked by one

I'd call you my lord, Cathe's master, king
I'd bow at your feet if you'd act like one
