Working toward a name....
Father

I never knew a single word
Could inspire such pain
And yet such joy
A child’s first hero
He can do no wrong
But as the days
Then the years pass by
Eyes
Once shielded by innocence
Saw a harsher truth

At least you know him
At least he’s in your life
They told me time and again
But those that spoke
Could not see my mind
My life
My heart
Words meant to help
Harm
No good
Life had handed me lemons
And as I worked to make lemonade
It seemed life had other plans
Their juice burned the wounds
Crisscrossing my heart
So I refused to feel
I refused to trust

Then my heart learned the joy
When he walked into our life
A father I never knew
My mother’s perfect match
He loves me as a daughter
And my heart wants to call him
That honored name
But something holds me back
Yet that feeling is melting
Leaving hope
Trust
Love
That day is coming soon
My heart told me so
To call him by his rightful name
Father
Dad

A call goes out
A father answers
