The war in my head or maybe my heart...not sure.
As I stand there face to face,
Eyes locked, jaws set.
Eye to eye.
One set is ablaze with darkness,
One set is darkened by light.
Both sets are mine,
But they belong to two different people.
Fists are clenched, muscles tensed,
Waiting for the other to make a move.
This face off, this stance,
This showdown has waited to take place.
Which is the stronger,
Which will prevail.
Both of the same person,
Both wanting to be in control of the other,
Both wishing to rule the whole.
Each swing to connect with the other,
Lightning explodes from the contact.
Smoke fills the air,
Shouts of strain emit from the midst.
Blow after blow, strike upon strike.
...And then it is finished.
No sound follows.
Only the victorious release of a breath,
Only one has survived.
And now he walks out of the swirling smoke,
To assume his newly won position.
To rule this single person.
Seen through the smoke,
A light of darkness...
Or is it a blaze of dark.
Not a white light shining out to pierce the dark,
But neither is it a red hot flame embodying the night.

Just a flame, born of a spark,
Set to burning, to devour,
To completely comsume.
A new fire bred from both flame and light,
A new desire that with change heart and mind.
Forming a new person, forged anew,
By pain and joy, hate and love,
Old and new.

But will this new person survive,
Or will the darkness yet prevail.
