This poem is about loneliness and the need to "belong" to something greater than yourself
A tree fell in the forest today,
As I passed on my way to nowhere
No one heard it fall but me.
It sounded like a thousand perfect moments,
Strung forever together,
In exquisite simplicity.
Reaching out I slid my fingertips
Tenderly across its rough, gray bark
Leaves crunching beneath my frozen feet
In little, tiny deaths- then, looking up,
A single snowflake drifts lazily
Down to meet my outstretched hand.
Lost and alone it melts into my warmth.
Smiling, I lay down softly
Beside my tree and wait
In patient, tortured silence for white.
