I had always been scared of death scared of what it would bring
By Shannon Murphy
2006

I had always been scared of death
Scared of what it would bring
Scared of being alone and losing everything
I wondered when my time would come
I feared it everyday
I couldn’t bear the thought
Of my life being taken away
The thought of no longer breathing
Sent spiders up my spine
What would happen to me
When my heart stopped beating inside
I was scared of leaving my family
And starting someplace new
I was scared of all the pain
That I’d have to go through
One day everything changed
It was like I saw the light
I woke up suddenly,
In the middle of the night
It took a few minutes to realize
What was happening to me
But then my pain was lifted
And I was finally free
The only thing I remember
Is “I heard a fly buzz when I died"
That was when I knew the truth
And I began to cry
The only thing I know about death
The one thing that is true
Is that when you die
It is never only you..
