What do you do on a winter's afternoon? For me this is as good as it gets!
Winter is creeping softly in,
toes of icy-cold stepping
like a blown breath
over dew-wet grass.

Morning wakes you
to watch the air
turn to mist in
your exhalation.

You step out into
a clear blue world -
the sky fills itself -
from horizon to horizon.

Your body thrills
to the call of the chill
goosebumps spread
like an owner.

You watch the sun climb
painfully slowly -dragging
up the level
of your mercury.

Finally the afternoon hits
bringing with it,
a little of blessed warmth
to ease aching extremities.

And you venture outside
huddling in your coats
to stave off the wind
whistling, biting through you.

Stretching your face
to the sun as it lays
rays of warmth
on your tired skin.

The working day is done,
it is time to stretch
aching limbs -
walk away the cold.

As you bask in
The little glow of warmth
Given by the sun
On a winter's afternoon...
