A friend asked me to write a comforting poem for the parents of a young child who died.
Each of us must one day pass
Into another life
Where God stands awaiting us
To take our earthly strife

Those who are left behind
Search to understand
Why God would take one so precious
From our loving hands

We so desire our loved one back
For no one else can know
All the love we feel inside
And the pain to let them go

But God knows our deepest pain
He collects our every tear
Every word and thought we have
The Lord is there to hear

It seems the lesson’s hard to learn
We don’t want to but we must
For God asks not we understand
Only that we trust

And if we put our trust in God
Our loved ones in his hands
We too will someday join them
And together we’ll all stand
