God, why can't You want what I want...
My child don’t
You know
I understand
You wish to fly
You try
But I hold you
And you fall
Exhausted from trying
Crying
Hopes thwarted
Frustrated
You try
To push me away
You stand and sway
Trying
To gain your footing
Breathing
Hard you try
To fly

I feel
Your heart beating still
With the will
And
I understand
But I know your destiny
Lies
Not in the sky
But in the sea
Your strength
Quotient
Is in the
Length and breadth
Of the ocean
There
Is where
I want to
Lead you

Aren’t you long
ing to sing
Your own song
You try to explain
Your pain
You scream
This is my
Dream
Don’t you
Think
I know that
Too?

In my strong arms
I hold you
Against me
Trying to calm
You as you beat
Your fist
Against my chest
Father
I long to follow my own
Quest
You’re like a child
That strives
For errant desires
And I
A Father whose interest
Is for your best

And I know
You think you long to
Go
But do you know
What I know
Do you see
By my hand
Your glory
Is written
In the sand
Your destiny
Is in the sea

So I hold you strong
My heart bleeding
With yours
And I cry
With your frustrated cries
You think it’s hard
For you
Son
It’s bitter hard
For me too
But I do it
For you

And when
Your sobs quiet
Then
When you feel most
Alone
Shattered body
Shattered soul
Know
And realize
That
Is when I
Am grasping you
Most tightly
