sort of a follow up to 'persecution'
i leap from the skillet into the fire,
but land in a grassy field.
the blades are dull and dance and sway,
beneath a brilliant sun.

the warmth of acceptance kisses my flesh,
as i bask in the sweet scent of freedom.

the sun rises higher, unaware,
and a bead of uncertainty forms on my brow.
the blades of grass grow brittle and frail,
and crumble beneath my step.

struggling for breath—for life,
i run to a solitary tree.
i lie beneath it's branches,
asking myself, "why?"

i stay until the sun goes
fading beyond the horizon.
the sky transforms into a magnificent sapphire,
as i wander back to my beginning.
