It felt like destiny...
TOAD

I don’t know how I came to be there, but I knew it was right. I was walking down a small pier, but it wasn’t over the sea it was heading into the centre of the lake. I knew this lake and this... Bridge but I couldn’t have told you the name of it or where it was, or where it was heading.
The last rays of sunlight were washing over my face but instead of lifting my head to greet the sun I hung my head to look down only to find I was barefoot. Between the boards of the pier I could see the sunshine reflecting off the ever moving flow of the water which was murky but somehow inviting.
I wondered again where I was heading and my mind was filled with images of a beautiful house in the centre of the lake. It had once been a gazebo but somebody had converted it into a tiny house years ago. Painted powder blue and white it was the most romantic spot in the whole world. The image filled me with a warmth I’ve never really experienced before... I still didn’t know why? It was a feeling that encompassed my whole heart and I felt complete, somehow protected...
I was here to meet someone, the revelation hit me just as I saw a toad sitting on one of the planks. I’d always liked toads and hated it when people called them ugly, I wanted to pick the little fellow up and say hello however, when he saw me he leapt away making no sound as he hit the water. Now that I thought about it, I couldn’t hear a single sound from anywhere. Not even the gentle whisper of the water.
Was this a dream? It couldn’t be, everything felt so real, so... right.
I knew the person I was going to meet, he was my destiny but I didn’t know his name or where he was from. I loved him that was why I was going there. I started to walk faster as I just couldn’t wait to see him. He was my best friend, yet I couldn’t picture him in my mind. He was beautiful.
I felt like I was walking through a memory, that’s how it felt, like deja vu but nicer, like fate. There it was the small summer house. I was going to live in that house I could feel it, I could just feel it.
There was a faint wisp of mist wrapped round it making it look mystical. It was so enchanting to me.
I was torn between wanting to find out my destiny and not wanting this feeling to end. I was positively floating...
Then, there he was, the most beautiful man I had ever seen in my life. He smiled when he saw me, I could tell he’d been expecting me, but how, if even I didn’t know I was coming here?
I went weak, I shook in his presence. I couldn’t go on, didn’t trust my feet not to tip me straight into the water. He came to me. It was like all the Gods in heaven uniting as one as he brushed my hair from my face. It would not have surprised me to see sparks fly, such was the chemistry between us. I loved him and he loved me. How could I have forgotten him? But still I didn’t really know him, I certainly didn’t know his name although no name could ever do him justice. He was not of this world and yet he’d summoned me! Maybe I too, was not of this world, it didn’t feel real maybe it wasn’t but it had to be!
Caressing my face with the touch of an angel he suddenly kissed me, our lips touching and briefly our tongues. I nearly melted away, I was so full of emotion I could’ve wept. I opened my eyes and he was gone. My heart started to thump in my chest. Where was he? I didn’t want this to end. I hadn’t come all this way just for him to leave me. I wanted to weep for a different reason now but I still felt an overwhelming sense of belonging...
I also had the feeling that somebody was watching me so I looked round. Nothing, nobody. I looked down and saw a little toad sat at my feet he was looking at me, actually looking at me! An image flashed into my mind as I had the feeling I actually recognised this tiny creature... It couldn’t be... Was he one of the toads I had discovered and spoken to... kissed as a child...
As I was lost in thought the toad winked at me... God as my witness the damn thing winked! I nearly lost my balance and fell. Shortly after he winked he leapt away.
I didn’t know what to do, I was lost, without a purpose. Would I go back... Would I swim in the lake to find a better place... Would I go home? But I knew what I had to do so I started walking again towards the house.
Inside I vaguely recognised the old place. It was tiny but enchanting. It was one big room that was split into kitchen, lounge, bedroom and so forth. I loved it.
I walked down a tiny step and sat down in the big easy chair, suddenly feeling weary. I noticed a little note on the coffee table and it was addressed to me.
It was only one line but as I read it everything made sense. Why I was there, the flashbacks and my little friend. I knew why I was there only it wasn’t my destiny it was his, I was only there to help him... The note read; “Thankyou for turning me into a prince.” A tear fell down my cheek as I put my head in my hands and cried for my love.
THE END
