Wrote a while ago-- my grief of losing a close friend
I saw you on the train today
    I had to stop to breathe;
            You looked as you had always looked
    Before you made me leave.

You didn't seem to recognize
    My shadow in the seat;
            My hair, my face, my saddened eyes
    Or hear my heart skip beats.

I saw you on the train today
    I won't forget your face;
            It's branded to my memory
    You'll never be replaced.

I wanted to come up to you
    I wanted to say hi;
          Ask if things are better now
    That I'm not in your life.

I saw you on the train today
    My gaze became a stare;
            You looked so lost and far away
    I wished you'd seen me there.

Why didn't I say the things I thought
      Before that went nowhere?
            Why didn't you do the things you ought?
      Back when we both could care?

I saw you on the train today
      I saw you look through me;
            Perhaps the past is still the past
      Beyond we still can't see.

I watched you leave the train today
      Going on your way;
              I hope next time I'll call your name
        Not watch you slip away.
