Accepting Christ's commission
This was originally written for the Blue Butterfly competition, which is for Christian poetry. I have uploaded a second poem ("Somewhere With Him) written for the same contest. This poem was accepted for the publisher's anthology.

Dear Sir,
I know that I’ve not always been
The child you would have wanted.
I haven’t listened to your word,
I turned away undaunted.
But now I know I need you still,
I need you by my side.
I need the comfort of your love,
I need somewhere to hide.

Dear Father,
Let me be your child,
The way I should have been.
Let me make it up to you,
For all the acts you’ve seen.
I want to hold you in my heart,
As I always should have done,
To have you as my moonlit night,
My daytime and my sun.

Dear Friend,
Let me be your right-hand man,
And never leave you again.
Send me out to take your love
Among my fellow men.
Give me your own message
To take into the world,
And help me be a worthy one
To hold your flag unfurled.
