55-word story for a contest, about a woman reclaiming life.
The sky glimmered with nightlights, and a moon that silvered the trees. I held him once more before he flew away.

“Thank you, angel, for saving me.”

His golden eyes smiled, the color of heaven. “You saved yourself.”

A whipping of wings bore him out of sight. The noose dropped from my hand. I believed.
