A blackbird caught in a tangle of brambles.
Be still blackbird,
trapped by bramble thorns.
Each wingbeat brings distress.
A pang, a prick brings more duress.
Learn to settle in your nettles,
Become content to never fly.

Be silent blackbird,
in your piercing cage.
Every call brings only coursers
to dine on your remorse, sir.
You must resign among the spines
for the complacent never cry.

Close your eyes blackbird,
shield them from the heights.
Do not dwell on soaring dreams.
You must live within your means.
No need for vision in your prison,
in still blind silence you shall die.
