Someone growing into a role that they were pushed into too early.
I did it; it’s never my fault, exception to all the rules.
Girl smiles tentative, unsure how to react
Thrown in at the deep end
Hasn’t learnt how to swim
Strange faces strange places
Meeting people who expect so much
I’m not her I can’t even try,
Please don’t ask me because I don’t know yet
Years can pass, still don’t compare.
Don’t worry yourself I’m getting there
Much like her, inferior only in my mind
Not so deep, treading water
Don’t need to smile but do anyway
Confident in the situation
That wasn’t me; it’s really not my fault this time
No longer the exception I make the rules.
