I wrote this little gem in high school. It still possesses a potent charm. Enjoy!
THE CREEPING THINGS
The creeping things are coming.
Their time is near at hand.
The phone lines are a-humming
with reports throughout the land.

There are silver eyes in the dark
When Noone is around
And the shadows in the park
Slither noisily on the ground.

Yes the Dark has come to claim us
the children of the Night
With teeth and claws to maim us
beyond the reaches of the Light.

No weapons can defend us
from these revelers in fear.
Their numbers are tremendous,
and they will come in the dark of the year.

So in the winter's gloaming,
When the night is falling fast,
Think twice of going roaming
if you want to last.

And be careful when you're sleeping.
That's the creatures' favorite time,
The time when they come a-creeping
To smother you with their slime.

Yes, the creeping things are coming
With their crawling, creeping fears.
They're unhindered by your running
And unmoved by all your tears.
