The catafalque party approaches the shrine
With their rifles reversed - heads erect.
They take up their posts - slowly lower their arms,
Bow their heads as a mark of respect.
Many people will come to offer their prayers
for the fallen of so many wars,
And place a small token of poppies so red
Then step back and reflect on the cause.
A day to remember the bold and the brave
Who all gallantly fought to the end.
In hope that mankind would soon know of peace
And to be not a foe but a friend.
Then in clear dulcet tones the bugler will sound
Echoed strains of the oft heard Last Post.
The most haunting tune that has ever been heard,
To be certain, it brings tears to most.
A moment of silence - we pause to give thanks:
While our hearts and minds quietly pray.
'Til the sound of The Rouse awakens us all -
'Tis the meaning of Veteran's Day.
