Convergence of career and passion
Other Lives

Families in trouble, clients to see,
I find myself driving all over town,
alone in my car with nothing
but idle time between visits
to compose my other life.
Dialogue ricochets between
preoccupied ears.  Listening to
other's troubles, I can’t stop thinking
of useful material, vibrant characters
who yearn to become real.  Their lives,
flecked with colors of pain, dirt, blood, sadness,
form the palate from which I paint.
The paths converge, mine and theirs,
until slowly I look inside myself,
and there I find a portrait
of who I was meant to be.

Other Lives

Families in trouble
People to see; driving
All over town, time to think
Composing my other life
Dialogue ricocheting; Between
Preoccupied ears; hearing
Other's troubles; Thinking
Of useful material
Colorful characters
The paths converging
Slowly I realize
These other lives

Are mine
