A Sad Poem
They looked at me
The eyes
Those piercing eyes
Brimming with pain
Accusing me of deception
I was not ashamed
I didn’t intend it
I just was not in love

I had tried to tell
She was too jubilant
I had tried to run away
She came forth like a magnet
I tried to break promises
She went on adding them

Finally I told her
I felt no regret
I was walking down the wrong alley
She didn’t forgive me
I didn’t beg for forgiveness
She couldn’t forgive me
And I couldn’t ask her

But I remember the eyes
Why now?
I saw the same eyes yesterday
Not on the road
Not in the cafeteria
Not in the park
I saw them on the mirror
Reflected back on me
They were full of hurt
I couldn’t forgive
I couldn’t forget
