child of an alcoholic
I cower, whimpering quietly in the dark forgotten corner

The empty bottle glares at me from the gleaming countertop

The snores resound loudly through these haunted rooms

The ending chapter to the nightly ritual that defines my existence

Destructive words echo endlessly inside my tortured mind

Only broken hopes, shattered dreams and bitter despair are left

A desolate child cries out mournfully from inside a glass prison

A tormented soul slowly withers until only an empty shell remains

My outward happiness and normalcy are but a masterful deception

My dysfunction is as clear as water and burns like fire

And the empty bottle glares ominously at me from the countertop
