Sore Point
Written By Christopher Barker
2002

I sat in the front room watching him potter around in the kitchen through the open door.
He grabbed spices and added them to the concoction on the stove. It smelt nice. He had Italian blood in him and he knew how to cook; ha! Italian blood, his great grand mother was Italian and he was American born and bread. But he could fake a mean accent.
I once again smoothed out my tight black dress, and sipped at the red wine he'd given me when I arrived.
My thoughts were carried by the smell of the spices to that afternoon.

I had been enjoying a Cappuccino outside Cafe B; it amused us to act 'all pretentious' at times. Sipping over priced coffee and sitting outside no matter the temperature, because outside you were seen by the 'hoi paloy'.
I really hated the place, I wasn't even a big coffee fan, but Julian was and he was also one of my best friends for 7 years and he liked the place.
We were both single, both very good looking and had both woken up in each others beds many a time; nothing had happened all those times which led me to suspect that he wasn't all that heterosexual.
Well I was going to find out.

"Julian... are you batting for the other team?" I said almost inconsequentially.

A small poof of foam leaped from the top of his drink and some how some of the liquid traveled up and dribbled from his nose. Not exactly the coolest thing to happen as we were sitting out side. I giggled at his reaction and he wiped his mouth and nose with a hanky.

"What?" he said finally.

"Are-you-gay?" I said almost mockingly.

"No- NO! No I'm not gay, wha? Why?-"

"It was just something that crossed my mind, it's okay to admit it if you aren't. I'm not going to judge, we've all got things we'd rather not have known publicly for people to judge-"

"I'm NOT GAY!"

A few passers by glanced back over their shoulders, causing Julian to blush. For saying he liked to sit out here and be pretentious, he sure did get embarrassed easily,

"Okay, okay!" I reassured, and sipped some more coffee.
There was an awkward silence. Before he spoke.

"What's yours?"

"My what?"

"Your 'thing that you would rather not have people know to judge it.'? What is it?"

"As stated, it's something that I'd rather not have known." I suppose I was being bigoted and Julian was about to pull me up on this, it was now me getting embarrassed.

"Hey! You wanted me to tell you mine and yet you won't tell me yours. I thought we were better friends than that."

"It's... it's just a fetish."

"No need to be embarrassed, people have fetishes."

I felt about six inches tall and bright red, I wanted to rewind time and just go on being not sure whether he was gay or not. Then he pulled a typical guy trick.

"Okay. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." With that there was another awkward silence. DAMN!
I couldn't stand it, for some reason I felt guilty.

"It's the kind of fetish that nobody ever wants to carry out with me."
Julian leaned in closer, a smile on his face. I continued quietly. "When ever I just think of it, it turns me on. I like to be given this specific drug right, which makes you all drunk feeling. Still conscious, but pretty much unable to do anything. And I like guys to just take me, like I'm being raped... I don't know why... it just does it for me."

He sat back, his face looked on the verge of laughter, I looked at him, and no trace of laughter was on my face. My look was enough to straighten his. He did the best thing he could at that stage and carried on like it didn't matter.

"Right, I've 'got to see a man about a dog'. If you'll pardon the working class expression." Said Julian.

He got up, I got up and we kissed European style. Twice, once on each cheek. MWUA MWUA!
As he slipped his mobile phone and his cigarettes into his pocket he said.

"Laura, how about dinner at my place tonight. Traditional home cooked Italian?"

"I smiled and accepted and was left sitting there outside the Cafe thinking about the past 10 minutes."

And now I find myself here, I think the wines starting to take effect. How many have I had? My head feels heavy and I drop my wine over his carpet, immediately I follow it to clean it again but I cant stand, I can barely kneel up right. Julian comes from the kitchen, I'm apologizing but he's saying.

"It's alright, it's alright."
He also whispers.
"This is my present to you."

With that he scoops me up in his arms, I know whatÆs happening. And I'm really turned on. He takes me to his bedroom, and gives me his present.

Now it's 3 days later. I awake gingerly in my own apartment, and I haven't spoken to Julian since. I walk across my messy studio flat and step into the shower. I delicately wash myself, avoiding the blue parts of my skin, wincing as the hot water touches them.

It seems as though Julian had a fetish of his own, he couldn't get it up unless he beat the living daylights out of his partner, plus I also have a particularly sore spot... between the cheeks of my anus, seems I was right... he is gay.
I just goes to show, be careful for what you wish for. Some 'kind' friend may give it you.
