I wrote this poem for a guy named Fred who died recently
A sweet and shooting star he was
Brought light and charm to everyone
But what stands out is something more
Is what Fred knew he had in store
Out up above this place and time
He had a lot in heaven’s shine
And he would be the guy to know
Helping folks on their way home
Knowing life was just a run
Around the park and then you’re done
Undertaker-s what he’s called
But Fred knew man had took a fall
Back in the garden sin was born
Now what men got was death and scorn
Now Fred believed that this was true
And even made a buck or two
On peoples passing from this place
He’d get them ready makeup on face
But way before that tearful day
Fred could help those still awake
For death was not the final verdict
Man would face Fred wouldn’t have heard it
He knew what God came and did
Born to Mary just a kid
Who grew into a man of faith
Who died so he could take our place
And love it was and Fred could see
That this was life eternally
And songs Fred sang in joyful hymn
For Fred had a great faith in Him
He called Mischke a time or two
And sang a song more like a few
He brightened days of listeners
Set minds at ease and hearts he stirred
But like others before would go
The Father called old Fred on home
And like a shooting star he was
Left light behind trailing along
So if we stop we’ll hear his song and
Have directions home
