This is dedicated to all of the "gift" receivers out there.
Did you receive a gift today?
Even though it was just another day.
Did he surprise you out of the blue,
with those diamond earrings he gave to you?

He said they were just to represent his feelings,
and to stop trying to read into the meanings.
Did you receive a another gift today?
A gift from him when he was on a trip far away.

He told, he just missed you
and he loved you so,
can't you just let it go?
You DID get a gift my dear,
Not even realizing that the end was near.

She called, you answered and said hello,
he was running out the door said he had to go.
She asked for your husband by name,
this call will make your life never the same.

She tells you that they are lovers,
she said they met through her brother.
You ask how long, she says 12 weeks,
She's so smug, like being his mistress is such a treat.

You think back to the time you got your 1st gift,
that was about 12 weeks ago out by the shore on your shift.
She continues to blow your mind,
you think of the gift you got the second time.

She says he has taken her to exotic places,
Just then you recall the crystals,
gift number three in the pretty cases.
She says this last time they agreed to be together,
always be there for each other forever and ever.

As you hang up the phone it hits you quite swift,
those wonderful gifts were not just gifts,
they were fake gestures to cover the task,
cover the external affair as a mask,
cover the love that was dwindling fast.
The gift was not just a gift.

It was a way to say I don't love you anymore,
now take these gifts, leave and close the door,
Not to be reopened and shared nevermore.
So take your gifts, as they will remind you each day,
be grateful of the life you have,
because in a moments notice it can be taken away.
