Villanelle
Because he wore rags and his feet were bare,
He had no food he was so poor,
He wished they wouldn't stare.

Hunger led him to the fair,
People pushed by, they tried to ignore,
Because he wore rags and his feet were bare.

With dirty face and tangled hair,
He picked the scraps up off the floor,
He wished they wouldn't stare.

He begged for any money spare,
His body feeling week and sore,
Because he wore rags and his feet were bare.

Moving sadly he asked a prayer,
He asked for love, once had before,
He wished they wouldn't stare.

He turns and leaves as none do care,
And asks for nothing more,
Because he wore rags and his feet were bare,
He wished they wouldn't stare.
