Prologue for my story, needs a title.
A young girl sits in an empty room, shackles chaining her to the wall. Her violet eyes dart towards the door as it opens, and a woman enters the room.
"Mama!" she cries, her little voice filled with joy.
"Shara, my child." Her voice is cold and emotionless, and Shara wonders why. What did she do to deserve this? Had she ever done anything wrong? She felt a memory dancing just beyond her grasp.
"Did you bring me any food today?" Her breathy voice is hopeful.
"I'm afraid not. I'm sorry." Her voice is far from apologetic, and her eyes seem mocking.
"Oh..." silence fills the small room. Shara decides to play along. To lure her mother in. "mama?"
"yes...dear?"
"why must I stay in this room?" her young eyes are questioning.
"Because you must be protected."
"Then why isn't Nar in here? Don't you want to protect him?"
She stares accusingly into her mother's eyes.
"Well... it's just that... you are special. We must protect you." her voice is unsteady... even scared. Shara knows she is lying. She knows now, by the unsureness and fear in her mother's voice.
"Mama, you're lying. Don't lie to me."
"what are you talking about?" She all but screams, her voice on the brink of hysteria.
"Do you love me mama?" Shara asks, her innocent voice now cold. Her memory has returned to her.
"I-I... of course." She inches towards the door.
"I don't like it when you lie to me, mama." Screams fill the confines of the small room as Shara rips her mother's mind apart.
