a poem i wrote for a contest
Ashes of Dread

The harsh winds assault your face
relentlessly
grasping at yourself, seeking warmth
fruitlessly
endless procession of reverence
a walk to the wake, lacking sense
an ocean of shadows, silhouette
no one can even believe He is dead
invulnerable to age, He could not die
Why did our Lord pass on? why?!

the snow falls from the sky, dark and heavy as coal
eroding my existence, i am not whole
A stagnant silence consumes the world
our hope is broken; our faith: curled

warped and misshapen, twisted by sorrow
the faces are calling i can't help but follow
all covered in black snow, struggling to breath
desperation biting down on us like teeth

Ashes of dread: embracing our pain
Ashes of dread: screaming his name
Ashes of dread: hail from the sky
Ashes of dread: the day God died

colors have lost taste and food is dull
the land is shriveled and rotten, not plump or full
"funerals are for mortals", why do we cry?
this cannot be true, it must be a lie!

spears and tears do not change a thing
we insist on boarding this plane without wings

Ashes of dread: hypnotizing call
Ashes of dread: drowning us all
Ashes of dread: piercing like swords
Ashes of dread: and the death of our lord
