A brief philosophical novel about changing and relationships.
From the start it was nothing to play with. To play with others minds, to play with the reality itself. One can be so strongly attached to another being that they in fact become one, blended, unseperatable. Never can there be one without the other, or a figment only known to the other. In fact, one cannot really speak from the other and the other, see there's no halves, only one.

Indeed, it is dangerous to become too much acquainted with someone. See, people change, they change all the time, and you change - yes, you just did. Do you feel yourself as the same being as the kid you see on those home videos? Or the rebellious teen from the past, is that really you?
We do change; our bodies and our minds change so that you can never be the exact same person you were before. Time and space prevents this. Still, despite all the changing, the human mind is an obstinate one. We feign ourselves that this really is me, through the time and till the end. And indeed, there seems to be a bit that never changes, the innermost core which seems to be permanent - or that is at least what we want ourselves to believe in. Some speak of the soul, a spiritual object, but in the end we never can know the true essence of this mysterious, yet truly essential part of ourselves.

So, if you fall in love with someone, you fall in love with her present Self, which is bound to change. Therefore it is not strange that many of the couples end up breaking up; you see the person you love changing in the front of your own eyes, the qualities which you love may disappear and be replaced by things you hate the most. It is not a beautiful thing to witness, the changing of a person, although sometimes it can lead to a better form, sometimes. It is something that we are not used to, the changing.
From the dawn of humanity humans have strived for categorizing things, so that the whole world can be wholly organized, and so on to be known to us for the purpose of controlling and manipulation. The subject wants to know everything, a flaw in the humanity one could say. So when the safely categorized Matt who you fell in love with 6 months ago slowly transforms to a not-so-nice Matt, who mainly spends his time leering at the computer, your categorizing has failed and you start to panic; what will happen next? Will the car transform into a highly intelligent robot with an organized mind compared to the ones of ours? In the end you end up breaking up with Matt, which is reasonable, for he was quite a creep to begin with.

One thing which really helps at accepting the fact of change, is a firm relation, like the relationship of a mother and a son. Because now the person can change all she wants, but you can never get rid of the fact that she is your mother. Or at least was.
Of course they can change too, critically, but family relations are something you cannot get rid of, biological facts which will last forever.

The one way to prevent the loss of love or acquaintance with change, though, is something people like to call real love. It is not the lust, the jealousy or the pressure casted by the society. It is not something you can take or demand for, maybe to hope for, but nothing more than that. Real love is something to be given.
So how does this love differ from the one we see all around us everyday, all the time?
Well, the trick is that real love binds: the ring, the customs, the society binds. Real love reaches the Cores of people, the unchangeable substances of ourselves, binding them together so that each and every change will not be a disaster, but rather an exciting and entertaining adventure. Now you can drift and change all you want, but the bond will stay, forever.

You cannot get someone's love by acting in a certain way, even thinking about something like that is pure foolishness. You do not love on behalf of the one you so desperately want to be loved by, it cannot be done, the love will awaken if it is to awaken. However, when it does, it will never disappear, even if the feeling is not bilateral. It will stay, binding and obligatory, but enjoyable and true.
