I think this is how we all feel at one time or another in our lives.
Where upon the darkness comes
We know not how
We know not why

Our light, our hope
darkness invades
nothing can withstand it

Why must this be?
Cannot we resist?
Evermore it returns

Trying to consume
Trying to conquer
Our hopes dashed

But once again light prevails
until once again
the darkness prevails
