An experimentation on the villanelle form of someone's (last) thoughts on a beach.
Shipwrecked on Iron Beaches

Down in Dreamworld’s soft, empty land
Cast-away by the cruelest tide
Driftwood buried in vast, white sand

Too weary, now, to understand
Why you had crossed the great divide
Down in Dreamworld’s soft, empty land

Across the sky, their wings expand
But they are a forgotten guide
Driftwood buried in vast, white sand

Remember well the Great Demand
that life had from your fingers pried
Down in Dreamworld’s soft, empty land

Clouds will splinter from one command
And in the sun’s fell grasp abide
Driftwood buried in vast, white sand

Close shining eyes, as you had planned
But still you see, beside your side
Down in Dreamworld’s soft, empty land
Driftwood buried in vast, white sand.
