I am a lost M&M. Deserted and alone, I must make the most of this frightening existence.
It is now day 5 of my unexpected exile. I wait in fear of what comes, although I've seen no activity for two days. My internal chocolate is becoming soft and I fear my shell won't survive long. I'm fairly certain the "M" on my chest is faded, almost gone. Has it come to this? Is this how my existence will end?

I've known my fate since I was but a brand new candy. It is known to all of my kind. We are a hard candy shell with a chocolaty center that melts in your mouth, not in your hands. Yet, there is no honor in being stepped on, possibly being put in the wash. It is a disgrace! We are meant to be enjoyed; we are meant to be savored.

With the time I have left, I will write my story.

Six days ago I had a happy life with my family. We lived in The Bag and life was good. We each imagined how happy we would make someone soon. Possibly a child, having a taste of his first chocolate. Or one of the big hairy ones, seeking pleasure amid a hectic day. It may seem morbid - this looking forward to being eaten. But it was the purpose for which we were created. It was a fate we each accepted. Everyone except my brother, M.

M had grand ideas of college, a job, a wife. He plotted daily to escape from The Bag. He was certain that if he could only escape, he could make a life for himself on the outside. His plan was to escape, then coat his candy shell with distasteful things such as dirt or filth. It is well known among us that if our candy shell is tainted, we will be discarded.

Finally the day came! The day that we would fulfill our destiny and bring someone pleasure. We felt the bag being lifted, saw the top being torn. M was perched near the top, right next to me. He would make a jump for it as soon as there was an opening.

It all happened so fast! The bag opened, M jumped, but was caught by The Hand. As M tried to escape, I was knocked from the bag and fell into a dark cloth pocket of sorts. This is where I have been for 5 days.

For the first three days, the garment I am in was worn daily. We walked around all day, then I rested in a pocket on the floor at night. I have not been worn for two days, and I fear this garment will be put into the wash soon. I must escape before that happens. But then what? I am too tainted to be eaten. If I try to wash myself off, my candy shell will dissolve. My fate looks grim, but I must try to escape from this prison.

Suddenly the garment is lifted from the ground. I move as close to the opening as I can and quickly fall to the ground. The light is so bright! It's difficult to see at first. As my eyes become adjusted I assess my surroundings. It's just as I suspected -- I'm in a laundry facility. My shell is tainted. I will be disposed of soon. I close my eyes and accept my fate when something warm picks me up. It's the sticky hand of a small child. The child's eyes light up as he realizes what he has found. I may be eaten yet!

Closer and closer I get to his little sticky mouth. In the distance I can hear his mother telling him not to eat things off the floor but it's too late. My chocolaty center begins to melt, and I have fulfilled my destiny.
