Parallels between the work of Friedrich Nietzsche and Fat Mike of NOFX - At least to me.
Friedrich Nietzsche, in his book "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", said this:
"Dead are all the gods: now do we desire the superman to live."
I take this as Nietzsche's way of saying that there has been deicide, and it has been caused by us. Translating the phrase of Nietzsche's into modern times, I think that my intepretation of it (not necessarily correct, I acknowledge) is this quote by the modern band NOFX.
"The world could certainly use some miracles, but until then I'll put my faith in human beings."
To me, this means that the stagnation of western christianity is upon us. The good that christianity has done in the past (e.g- the values it placed upon society) should now be utilised through living for the day, in the way that humanists, agnostics and athiests have been doing for centuries.
The place in society of religion to me has always been to fulfil the spiritual side of humans and to present an outlet that gives us hope. This has been an important place in the past, but in today's society, it may be time for such sentiments to be accessed via our fellow men.
We must endeavour to do the best we can for ourselves and our fellow man, not for a god.
I acknowledge the fact that religion is a major part of many people's lives, and I believe that it should be retained. But human life and rights must be put first.
Religion could be regarded as the last great superstition of society.
I implore all to think over their position, religiously speaking, in today's society. Who are you living for? Yourself and your neighbour, or the anthropomorphisation of hope?
