he had just moved to pittsburgh...
we heard the cool night crying.

soft regrets slipped
under our door
and our shadows gawked,
slinking in the grey
that devoured the street

streetlights poured
orange silence
anointing our crumpled brows
in their somber light

arms twined
in magnificent form,
we paused

street smeared wide,
god, i've never felt so small.

the grass itching
for our company,
we curled up
like smoke

eyes gave way to
the liquid light
steaming down my temples
and speckling your shirt-
funny,
they always know where to land.

the sky let out
a shaking breath
shaking,
shook loose a stray
silver tear-
yes, it is funny.
funny how they always know where to land.
