a poem on the trials of life
Haven

I am a ship on an untamed sea,
My sails are torn, and I’ve nowhere to flee.
Like a leaf in violent swirling winds,
I am thrown, near death, by the ocean’s whims.
And all around like rabid beasts,
The foaming crests climb over me.

The shrieking winds, they mock my sweat,
But I stand unmoved by Poseidon’s threat.
They scream to me that hope is vain,
That the flailing brine shall be my bane.
Taunt as they may, my peace remains,
For I will see the white shores yet.

Though swells may flood my human eyes,
And no land be lit under darkened skies.
I will not fear the churning foam,
For naught is here that I call home.
When my journey ends, I shall find rest,
On the coast where my sweet haven lies.
