The end of the end...
A yellow leaf fell down on the frozen ground. Small, yellow leaf. The last yellow leaf on that particular tree. The last leaf on that tree. It was falling down for a long period of time, almost not daring to touch the earth. Not making a sound. Just swinging in the air. The tired tree tried to keep it for himself for a long time. Clinging to it, like to the life itself. But then he lost all his strength and power and he had to let the leaf go.
A little girl was standing underneath him. Watching that lonely leaf. She felt alone, too. She stood there for so long, talking to the tree, sleeping on his rough skin. He liked her company. She was young but bright. She was the only reason why he didn't want to let that leaf go. He felt less alone since she was there with him. But the sadness of that little soul was killing him. And when he became too tired to bare he decided to let her go.
When she saw the leaf starting to fall, she smiled. She had such a beautiful smile. He wished she smiled more often before. "Thank you, dear friend, thank you for setting me free." She came close to him, caressed him skin and lied down on frozen ground leaning her head on him. She could feel her warmth shining. He felt happy. She closed her eyes and waited. The leaf fell down on the ground next to her and she breathed in her last breath. She left this world peaceful and happy. Free.
The Tree of Life let the last living human soul on this world go. Now the human race was extinct. He wasn't sorry they were gone, he was sorry he had to let HER go. But he knew he did the right thing. He looked at the silence around him, and breathed in the green pastures and blue skies. Now, Earth can start to renew. Now, the Nature was free.
