A soldier has to say goodbye to his girlfriend
Walking you out the door
And out to the parking lot to you car
It's hot and humid
So why do I feel so cold?
I know in my gut
This is gonna hurt
Looking into your eyes
"Good luck and be safe."
I say to you
But in my head I'm screaming
Wishing you won't go
Two sets of eyes tearing up
Tears falling from each of them
"I'll be here waiting for you to get back."
Standing there in the parking lot
Embracing each other
I turn to go back inside
You insist on walking me back to the door
Walking up the steps to that quiet apartment
You drop to your knees and hang on to my waist
Crying so hard on the inside
Choking out that you don't want to go
We hug one last time
I walk inside tears rolling down my hot face
Praying that you will still love me when you get back
