Taken aback by the beach
The clouds meander across the sky-
swapped for stars which can't see me.
There are miniture versions of the
big things in her ears, shrinking us.

More managable yet just as
meanlingless. A slight incline of my
neck reveals the clouds have emptied.
A vast expanse opens up despite me.

The waves eat my big toe and lick at
my ankle. I am no different
from the last person nibbled by water.
A whole lifetime can pass benignly.

The horizon reminds me of my
mortality and nothing really matters.
