I ran away a few weeks ago...
Tha-thump.
    Tha-thump.

Rubber sole,
Meet pavement--
Cold, Hard, Unforgiving.

It doesn't care where you're
          coming from.
It doesn't care where you're
          going to.

Tha-thump.
    Tha-thump.

You hear your footsteps echo--
          a heartbeat of hurt.
You hear a car passing--
          a reminder of the world outside your head.

Don't think about the distance--
          Plod on.
Don't let the tears cool your skin--
          Headlights pick up the tracks.

Just. Keep. Walking.

Tha-thump.
    Tha-thump.

No one ran after you this time.
